Eminem Wins Big at MTV EMAs as Miley Cyrus Causes Controversy

Eminem was among the big winners at the MTV Europe Music Awards last night, while Miley Cyrus caused controversy yet again.
The 41-year-old rapper won the Best Hip Hop and Global Icon prizes at the ceremony at the Ziggo Dome in Amsterdam - making him the artist with the most EMAs ever - and he celebrated his victory with a surprise performance of "Bezerk" before a scintillating rendition of "Rap God."
Miley ensured she remained in the spotlight by sparking up what appeared to be a joint on-stage and then smoking it with Will Ferrell, who was at the awards as his Anchorman alter-ego Ron Burgundy, before accepting her Best Video prize for "Wrecking Ball." The blonde star told the crowd, "I couldn't fit this award in my bag but I did find this..."
One Direction also won two accolades, Best Pop and Best UK & Ireland Act, and the band's 19-year-old hunk Harry Styles was named Best Look - beating the likes of Lady Gaga, Rihanna, Justin Timberlake and Rita Ora to the gong - however none of the boy band were at the ceremony to pick up their prizes.

Boy George: New Culture Club Album Set for 2014
Posted by Andru Edwards Categories: Artist News, Reunions, Upcoming Releases, R&B / Soul, Reggae, Rock,
Boy George has revealed Culture Club are going to release new music.
The "Do You Really Want to Hurt Me" hitmakers haven't put out any new material since 1999, but the singer has confirmed they will start writing the album in January. "It will be a new record, completely new. There's no point just doing it for nostalgia ... We're certainly going to do it," he told The Sun.
The group's guitarist Roy Hay met up with Boy George last week in Los Angeles to discuss plans, and Culture Club are aiming to record the new record early next year ahead of a release later in 2014. The "Karma Chameleon" quartet - completed by Mikey Craig and Jon Moss - could end up working with Brian Eno, famous for producing music by the likes of Depeche Mode, Coldplay and U2.
"There's some interesting ideas about who we want to work with. It's got to be really good," Boy George said.

Azealia Banks: I’m the Female Kanye West
Posted by Andru Edwards Categories: Artist News, Hip-Hop & Rap,
Azealia Banks thinks she's the female Kanye West.
The "212" rapper believes she shares a spiritual connection with the hip-hop star and thinks no one else can even come close to their musical "genius." She told ELLE magazine, "Kanye is a genius. Kanye and I are like the same person but boy and girl. We're pulling from the same cloud, the same inspiration. We're both Geminis, we're the two premier avant gardists in hip hop music. It's just me and him. I think our consciousnesses are swirling around each other in some weird kind of way..."

Miley Cyrus Won’t Use Foam Finger in EMA Show
Posted by Andru Edwards Categories: Awards, Gossip, Performances, Pop,
Miley Cyrus promises to keep foam fingers out of her MTV European Music Awards performance.
The "Wrecking Ball" singer caused controversy earlier this year when she twerked against Robin Thicke and made suggestive motions with a foam finger - but she has ruled out a repeat when she takes to the stage tomorrow night in Amsterdam.
"God, I don't know [what people will think]. If I only knew. But I can't think of any kind of prop that I would use [to] disrespect and offend. So I think I'm good about that. No Foam Finger Association is going to call me. I made custom [alien costumes], I made my own. No one owns aliens," she told MTV.
The racy star's performance on the night will have a focus on science fiction and outer space because of her love of extraterrestrial beings: "I've had this vision for a while. I've wanted to somehow involve something around aliens - because I really love aliens. Obviously, I really loved teddy bears so I built a whole show around teddy bears ... And I also like aliens, so I built the show around aliens. And when I knew that [ex-LMFAO musician] RedFoo was going to be there, I just felt he was the perfect person to get involved in what I'm all about, which is just having fun on the show, and not doing anything too serious."
Bruno Mars Inspires Ellie Goulding

For inspiration, Ellie Goulding looks to her pal Bruno Mars.
The "Starry Eyed" hitmaker has toured the US supporting the singer and says his live show has made her "up her game" and improve her own stage set to be more suitable for a bigger audience: "Bruno's show is phenomenal. It's the most incredible live show I've seen - that and Bjork, and it made me want to up my game. I read an article the other day that said I'd become Americanized, that I'd come from this shy English rose girl playing a guitar to being this big pop star... But you do adapt a bit to those bigger crowds and playing arenas. You can't just go out there and just say, 'Hiii.' You really do have to go out there and command."

Pharrell Williams Obsessed with Einstein, Leonardo da Vinci
Posted by Andru Edwards Categories: Artist News, Hip-Hop & Rap, Pop, R&B / Soul,
Pharrell Williams works like Einstein and Leonardo da Vinci.
The rapper-and-producer is "obsessed" with the work of the scientist and can see similarities between his own thought processes and that of the physicist and artist:
I'm obsessed with Einstein's process of tapping into the ether. He called it thought experiments and I was very surprised to see it was so similar to Leonardo da Vinci's process. It's like putting a candle on the floor and looking at the light flickering on the ceiling to zone out - which is a good description of what it's like when I make music. Often I'll go outside walking, which allows my mind to wander. It's the wandering that brings about good ideas for me."
As well as making music, Pharrell has been busy working on a sunglasses collection for Moncler and says he priorities "silhouette and functionality" in design. "These days, when it comes to design, I'm all about silhouette and functionality first. What's more important - the t-shirt or the label plastered across it? Just think about Rei Kawakubo [Commes des Garcons founder] - she's a genius. She proves you don't need to cover your designs in a label because the silhouette tells you exactly who made it," he explained to Grazia.
Eminem to Appear at MTV EMAs
Posted by Andru Edwards Categories: Awards, Performances, Hip-Hop & Rap,
Eminem will be appearing at the MTV Europe Music Awards tomorrow.
The rapper has been confirmed to attend the awards ceremony held in Amsterdam, the Netherlands, where he is due to be presented with the Global Icon Award. The "Lose Yourself" hitmaker - who is also rumored to be performing - follows in the footsteps of music legends including Bon Jovi, Queen and Whitney Houston. "A lot of thought goes into who could possibly be appropriate. This man, has sold over 80 million records. I think everyone agrees, Eminem is one of the most creative and unique artists of our time," said Bruce Gilmer from MTV.
Acts already confirmed to take to the stage include Miley Cyrus, Robin Thicke, Katy Perry and Kings of Leon.
Meanwhile, this year's EMAs host Red Foo from LMFAO has been getting to know host city Amsterdam ahead of tomorrow's show. "Amsterdam is incredible, and the women are incredible here becuase they all ride bikes and they are fit and it is lovely, and the bikes are serious here. You see ones with, like three baby seats on them. And then coffeeshops! I saw Afrojack in one last night and we had some, y'know, coffee," he said.

M.I.A.: I’m a Rapper, Not a Pop Star
Posted by Andru Edwards Categories: Artist News, Gossip, Hip-Hop & Rap, Pop,
M.I.A. dismisses the idea she is a pop star.
The "Bring The Noize" musician insisted she prefers to be known as a rapper and thinks people pigeonholing her the way they do is a bit "weird."
"I dunno... it's weird. I'm not really a pop star. I don't think I'm popular enough to be a proper pop star. I prefer being called a rapper," she told V magazine. She admitted there was a time before her fourth album Matangi when she questioned her own ability to make a successful pop album. "After I made the last record I was no longer on XL, my old label, and I felt like I didn't know how to make a big pop record. I didn't know how to do the thing that everyone wanted me to do - which seemed like the only thing you could do on a major label," she explained.
The "Paper Planes" hitmaker has opened up about her style in the past, and she has compared herself to polarizing artists.
Lady Gaga Feels Empty After Completing ‘ARTPOP’
Posted by Andru Edwards Categories: Artist News, Concerts / Tours, Pop, New Releases,
Lady Gaga feels "empty" and "depressed" after finishing her album ARTPOP.
The "Applause" hitmaker has hit a low point since releasing her third studio album as she is no longer being creative. "I'm depressed after making this album. I feel empty and sad. I'm no longer the creator, I'm the performer. This is the reverse of Warhol, this is the reverse of the soup can, this is art imprinted onto pop culture," she said at a concert.
This comes only weeks after Gaga claimed she doesn't "feel alive" when she is not on stage as her stage persona gives her the chance to express her thoughts. "When I'm not on the stage, I don't feel alive. But when I hit the stage, it's like everything that I'm thinking and feeling, where I belong - that's where it is," she previously said.
But the 27-year-old eccentric star doesn't think she is different from anyone else, because most people have creative energy they want to release. "I don't think I am different from anybody else. I think everyone with their location and their job and what they do, their passion, feel the same way I do. It's sort of like we are endlessly obsessing about what we are creating and then the explosion is the moment where we get to share," she explained.
